A group of cyclic unsaturated compounds which are stabilised by delocalisation. Aromatic species are prone to electrophilic aromatic substitution. Aromatic species have chemical shift of 7-8 in the NMR spectrum. In fact the presence of an NMR induced ring current is used to define whether or not a species is aromatic.
