Haemoglobin
  Real biological entity.




Haemoglobin carries oxygen, O2, in the blood. The oxygen is complexed to haem functions (four per protein molecule) which have an iron atom in the +2 oxidation state at the centre. Haemoglobin complexes carbon monoxide even more strongly than oxygen.
