When alanine and glycine react together, two mixed dipeptides are formed, ala-gly and gly-ala.

(Note. If alanine and glycine were condensed together in "one pot", there would also be gly-gly and ala-ala formed. This hypothetical reaction was taken from an AS/A2 exam paper where the wording removed any ambiguity about the synthesis.)
